Sell Option of Eighth Street Property

CUMC ANNOUNCEMENT ON SELL OPTION OF 8TH STREET Blessings in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ: On Tuesday, December 8, 2015 the Administrative Board & Trustees met jointly to consider three offers for the 8th Street CUMC Church Property. After almost 2 hours of discussion & discernment, it was decided to recommend the following (this is a joint recommendation from Administrative Board & Trustees): “The Administrative Board & Board of Trustees of Christ United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove, PA, Inc., hereby recommend to the charge conference of Christ UMC the following: That Christ UMC will sell the 429 North 8th Street Property, as is, to Snyder County Coalition for Kids for $150,000.00 subject to the settlement being completed on or before 60 days as of December 20, 2015 CUMC Charge Conference Date.” The joint board passed this recommendation with 10 votes for, 0 votes against, and 2 abstentions. This group’s vision for the 8th & Mill Street property is contained in a brochure with copies available in the narthex. In a nut shell, Snyder County Coalition for kids works “to foster safe and healthy communities for the children of Snyder County” with a vision “to promote youth development & prevent dependency/delinquency using the Communities that Care model.” They will establish a “Regional Engagement Center” (REC) at the 8th Street property that “will provide intergenerational opportunities for volunteering, health and wellness classes, and economic experience.” Some of the examples of ministries & community programs that could be part of the REC would be Meals for Seals & Meals for Mustangs, Afterschool programming & tutoring, Meeting space for Youth Groups, Health & Wellness classes from Evangelical and Geisinger, activities for children & youth for weekends & cancelled school days, Girls on the Run, Teen business opportunities, and community gardening opportunities. The partners for this initiative are The YMCA, Snyder County Coalition for Kids, The United Way of Greater Susquehanna Valley, Girls on the Run, Selinsgrove School District, Mid-West School District, Penn State Extension 4H & Dietary Classes, Susquehanna University, the Borough of Selinsgrove, Selinsgrove Ministerium, and DB Construction. The Charge Conference to vote on this proposal is Sunday, December 20, 2015 immediately following second worship service. Please attend if at all possible! All members have voice and vote. The District Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Thomas Salsgiver will be presiding.
