Ad Board Resolution, Vote and More

Update for September 11 & 13, 2015 for CUMC, Selinsgrove Blessings in Christ: On Tuesday, September 8, 2015 the Administrative Board approved the following resolution for the Church to consider at charge conference on Wednesday, October 7, 2015: “Resolved Christ United Methodist Church of Selinsgrove, Incorporated, will construct a church building and associated infrastructure on its Route 522 property using available insurance and building funds; and borrowing no more than $850,000.” A couple of explanatory notes to this resolution: • The number listed for barrowing is $850,000 instead of $735,000 (discussed at the town hall meetings). This is a number that we felt comfortable proposing as a just in case with the hopes of not barrowing in reality no more than $735,000. Finance & Administrative Board will be looking, if the congregation votes to approve this resolution, at where best to barrow this money from (i.e., the Conference Loan Fund or commercially from a bank). • With more contents estimation coming in, there is a hope that some of that money, after deep discussion with ministry team leaders and Administrative Board, can be used for building increasing available insurance funds for church building and associated infrastructure. • A total number of what the whole project will cost is not listed so as not to box in the work of God through the Holy Spirit. Currently projections are coming in between 1.75 million and 2 million but we do not want to limit what God will do through upcoming giving in future years. • The Administrative Board believes that the congregation feels called by God to propose to the Charge Conference for vote Building New along with associated infrastructure. Hence, the Administrative Board selected building new instead of restoring 8th street as its resolution. This is what is before us to vote on October 7. • If the church approves the resolution on October 7, then the Trustees will continue their work on options for the 8th Street Property beginning immediately on October 8. They have already begun this work. One other update today, with sadness I report that the Sanctuary Piano and Organ have been deemed a loss by Robert M. Sides music business. This means that they will not be restored and that the church will have a claim of funds between $45,000 and $70,000 depending on what Worship Design Team and Trustees select to do in regards to replacement or accepting depreciated value (there is a possibility that funds for this will be placed in building funds after WDT & Trustees deem what should be kept for musical instrument needs; the new piano we currently have at Christ Church High is one purchased with replacement value insurance money to replace the piano that was totally destroyed in the choir room at 8th street). Three other update notes: 1. The building committee meeting schedule for September 29, 2015 at 6:30 pm will be a special meeting where ministry team leaders have been invited so as to help with inside construction decisions for the new building if the church votes to build new. 2. We are placing more chairs in the sanctuary this week at Christ Church High and we will also have hymnals available for second service if your preference is to sing from the hymnal instead of the screen at second service. 3. We were number 6 among all churches who sent people to church camp this summer. Meaning we were 6 out of 900 churches in the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church.
