The Morning After
This was the verse of the day from Biblegateway.com today: "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." -- Philippians 4:6-7 NIV Well, my beloved friends in Christ, we know that our God is a God of resurrection who hears our requests even in the hardest of times. I am at a loss for words, I do not know what to say at the devastating loss of most of our church. As the fire chief took myself, the District Superintendent and some trustees into the sanctuary (where is was safe), I was shocked to look at the blackened remains of the rest of the first floor and to see the second floor buckling from above. I, like many of you, are in shock. And while we grieve the loss of such a holy & sacred place for children, youth and adults; I am also thankful that no one was hurt, that no one was in the building when this occurred.
CUMC, I love how much you love and care for others! We will get through this because God sends his peace which transcends all understanding. Please, continue to lift up those prayers and petitions. God hears them and send the Holy Spirit to care for them. I ask for prayers for the leaders, trustees, staff and myself as we begin the long process of recovery. I am so thankful and blessed to be your pastor. You are an awesome church! Remember, in the end the church is not a building, it is the people. Many the peace of our Lord and Savior be with you tonight and guide us all as we move forward in sharing God's love in this world. ~ Pastor Ryan
